The basis for this decision are fire tests according to German, European and international standards used to classify the flammability and the burn rate of materials for the construction, textile, automobile and electrical industry.</p>

<p>For the construction industry, especially the reaction to fire of building materials with the resulting parameters flammability, flame spread, flaming droplets, combustibility, heat release, calorific value, smoke production and toxicity as well as the fire resistance of building components are of relevance.</p>

<p>The reaction to fire of all materials and structures used for construction such as facades, building and insulation material, plastics, gaskets and floor coverings is tested. <p>Dielectric Analysis (DEA), also known as Dielectric Thermal Analysis (DETA), is a technique for monitoring changes in the viscosity and cure state of thermosetting resins, adhesives, paints, composites and other kinds of polymers or organic substances by measuring variations in their dielectric properties. DEA is the most powerful measurement technique for the critical, invisible in-mold curing that dictates the quality of a component.</p>
<p>The DEA 288 <em>Ionic</em> offers customized test conditions, available in either a process-implementable &#8220;Rack&#8221; version or a versatile &#8220;Portable&#8221; version. For laboratory investigations, a variety of accessories can be used, including a laboratory furnace that can be combined with a UV-light source, as well as a humidity chamber and lab press for precise re-creation of specific conditions.</p>
<p>Designed with ease of sample handling in mind, the DEA 288 <em>Ionic</em> requires no special sample preparation, unlike many other measurement techniques. With a broad range of sensors available, almost any practical application can be accommodated. These include spray coating of thin films, application by a drawbar, spreading of low- or medium-viscosity materials, positioning the sensor between layers of a prepreg, dipping the sensor in a liquid, and monitoring in-mold curing processes.</p>
<p>Often, polymers achieve their full performance potential only upon being combined with active additives. Such additives serve to adjust the morphology or the polymer architecture in a targeted manner. With the DEA 288 <em>Ionic</em>, the effectiveness of accelerators, inhibitors, and antioxidants can be measured quickly and reliably, as can the impact of substances such as fillers. <p>The TMA 402 <em>F3 Hyperion<sup>®</sup></em> Polymer Edition now offers not only to keep the force constant and to measure the length change, but also to change the displacement and measure the corresponding force. This is for example used in a stress relaxation test. Here, a sample is stretched by a specific amount at a defined temperature. During the test, the deformation is kept constant and the progression of the force is recorded. This force continuously decreases as a result of material relaxation. Stress relaxation is ultimately defined by the residual stress measured after a defined exposure period. The data can be depicted graphically in a stress-time diagram. It is then possible to read off both the stress relaxation behavior and the values for the relaxation rate and time.</p>
